While the mainstream media is busy with frivolous topics like India-Pakistan peace mission, IPL, Bollywood etc there is a part of our country (Telangana) which is boiling and threatens to tear apart the fabric of our modern state. It seems to be a classic study of – divide and rule that was earlier practised by imperialists & now implemented to perfection by our politicians.

In a late night briefing on December 9, 2009, the Government announced that the process for the formation of Telangana state will be initiated. Subsequently after 15 days, the Government announced that the issue of a new state will be addressed only after a consensus is reached. Thus effectively putting the formation of the new state in abeyance and making Telugu speaking people fight with each other.

The formation of states in India has been a tricky subject. In 1953, the States Reorganization Commission was appointed to prepare for the creation of states on linguistic lines. So creating two Telugu speaking states itself is contradictory. And it makes in vain the supreme sacrifice by Potti Sreeramulu to carve out the state of Andhra Pradesh from erstwhile Madras Principality.

The announcement to create Telanagana state was made in a very adhoc manner without taking anyone in confidence or discussions. The TRS party led by Rao was anyhow politically isolated and on the verge of disintegration. The government must have shown some resilience. Now that the Centre has agreed for a separate Telangana state out of AP, it set the trend for other separate States like Gorkhaland, Bodoland, Vidarbha, Rayalseema etc. And there are better claimants for a separate state like Jammu & Gorkhaland. It may also result in violent agitations across the country.

The situation is very tense in Telangana & may erupt anytime into full blown crises. Every alternate day there is strike, bandh, road jams or demonstrations for both pro & anti Telangana. Students are badly affected. Many of them committed suicide and several of them have lost a year in academics due to constant agitations. Business has also been badly affected as the status of Hyderabad city is in a limbo. Hyderabad is home to several IT companies and constant bandhs may affect their workings. All the Andhra Pradesh MLA’s have also submitted their resignations thereby creating a political stalemate.

To agree for a Telangana state without proper discussions was a monumental blunder. Currently there seems to be no solution in sight. The government may buy some time by setting up a committee. But the blunder has been done & people’s passions have been aroused. Now it remains to be seen how far the fire may spread and the poor nation can only count the losses.

Australia Down Under

It has been a constant practise by developed nations to regularly reprimand developing or poor countries on issues such as human rights, religious freedom, state of minorities etc. Subsequently they manipulate several agencies like UN, World Bank and dictate terms to disperse funds or exert influence – by occupying a higher moral ground. How they treat migrants from other countries in their own society is a different story.

The shameless conduct of Australians against poor & defenceless Indian students is an eye opener. Australia has been unmasked as a racist nation. To make matters worse they are in a constant state of denial and like to believe that attacks are opportunistic rather than racially motivated.

Thousands of Indian students travel to Australia, among other countries to study. They spend lakhs of rupees on undertaking useless courses. It is very likely that young Indians go to Australia on student visa hoping to get themselves permanent residency and look forward to to be able to stay there forever. However their dreams crash land when they reach there. Since the cost of living is high they have to do unskilled jobs for long durations just to sustain themselves. There is no security or civil concern for these students and most of the schools are just interested in making money and exploiting them.

Attacks on Indians in Australia are continuing unabated. Repeated assaults on India have strained diplomatic ties between India and Australia. Latest amid a string of attacks on Indians in Australia, with 21-year-old Nitin Garg, who was stabbed to death by unidentified assailants.  Australia is in a state of denial on the racially motivated attacks against Indians and has failed to deal with the issue.

Indian government has again failed to protect its citizens. Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna has warned that continued violence against Indian students could damage relations and called for an immediate ‘corrective action’ by Australia. However the reactions from Australian establishment have been very irresponsible and are not taking the issue seriously.

It is time to take some action.
Few steps can be taken immediately, such as – issuing a travel ban on Australia. Boycotting Australian products. Not allowing cricket players in IPL may also have some effect as they stand to loose monetarily. If attacks on Indians continue unabated we may loose our dignity worldwide and will be treated just like slave labourers.

Amongst all news of gloom and doom there is some good news from the Reliance group.

India’s Reliance Petroleum has started processing crude oil at its new refinery, creating the world’s biggest refining complex. The $6 billion project will make the oil complex in Jamnagar in Gujarat the world’s single biggest supplier of fuels to the global market, pumping out 1.24 million bpd of ultra-clean fuels.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has also commenced production of hydrocarbons in its KG-D6 block of Krishna Godavari Basin with the production of crude oil on 17th September 2008. The field is initially producing about 5,000 barrels of crude per day and is expected to reach its peak hydrocarbon production of 5,50,000 BOEPD over the next six to eight quarters.

A first of its kind hydrocarbons production from any deep water field in the country, Reliance KG-D6 will account for 40% of country’s current indigenous hydrocarbon production. It is estimated that the production from KG-D6 facility will save India an annual foreign exchange outflow of US$20 billion.

It is very important that India reduce its dependence on imported Oil. To do that we need to develop not only new oil exploration initiatives but also initiate new forms of energy and new ways of using it like – wind, solar, hydel and other new technologies.

Who says there is recession?
There is a company in India – Green House Promoters Private Limited, which recorded a huge ‘domestic’ turnover of Rs 755 crore in the very first year of its operations. Of course it is a mere coincidence that Union Telecom Minister A Raja’s wife MA Parameswari, is a director in that company.

http://www.dailypioneer.com/143633/Zero-to-Rs-755-crore-in-1-year!.html

The telecom minister is accused of deliberately under-pricing telecom spectrum — a scarce national resource, especially in cities and allotting it to a clutch of privately-owned mobile telecommunications companies, thereby causing a huge loss to the exchequer.

Why can’t there be simple guideline – All government licenses will be auctioned.

How to handle Pakistan?

It is now increasingly clear that Pakistan as a nation is unsafe for the entire world. It supports Al Qaeda, destroyed Afghanistan and has been continuing the policy of death by 1000 cuts against India. Worldwide, most of the terrorist planning and operation is done from Pakistan and is a safe haven for terrorists.

It is now time to reverse the policy of death by 1000 cuts on to Pakistan by taking some action like:

  • The main reason for the Pakistan to swagger and overconfidence is that no action will be taken against it for any misdemeanour is because they have Nuclear weapons. It is time to de nuclarise Pakistan by coercive diplomacy.

  • All compensation claims in case of any terrorist event arising from Pakistani citizens (stateless or otherwise) should be forwarded to Pakistan government. They must pay for their actions – in Cash.
  • In every terrorist attack, there is always an ISI connection. It is not only a nuisance for other countries but even its own politicians. The local politicians must be convinced to dismantle ISI for their own survival.
  • Restrict the number of visas issued to Pakistanis wanting to visit India. Most of terrorists and their planners would have visited Mumbai several times on a recce visit before executing the attack.
  • Stop all trade with Pakistan. Their GDP is on a decline and they are importing most of their daily consumption items especially food stuff.
  • Call off all cricketing ties. As our sports minister told us they can’t send a team to Mumbai to kill and then expect us to be playing cricket. Also the PCB is financially dependent on Indo-Pak matches for most of the revenue.
  • Don’t give work visas to Pakistani actors for TV & Bollywood. Much hyped the people to people contact has not helped.
  • Pakistan may disintegrate anytime so the Indian government must start negotiating with local politicians especially those from Sindh & Baloch governors. India must give up the thought that you can’t change the neighbours.
  • Pakistan is a bankrupt country. It survives on loans by IMF. India must force the IMF do give conditional aid and arrange to dismantle the terrorists infrastructure.

War is not an option, but taking no action would be worse. Just arresting few people only to be released later will not send a positive sign. This policy must be pursued till time they hand over the 40 people demanded by the government of India.
